Meet Amelia Freer

3 MIN READ

Amelia first began her journey in nutritional therapy in her early 20s when a range of health complaints and symptoms encouraged her to research and understand the impact of her diet. Upon a friend’s recommendation, she visited a nutritionist and became inspired by the scale of results and improved lifestyle that a balanced diet can create. This ignited a passion in Amelia to understand exactly how food interacts with our physiology and psychology, and soon after she quit her job as a PA to the prince of Wales and undertook extensive training in Nutritional Therapy.

"I think when you have experienced first-hand what a difference good nutrition can make to how you look, how you feel, how you sleep, how much energy you have and your overall health, it is hard not to also develop a passion for it. And that passion naturally went on to become my career. Since making changes to my own eating habits, I feel empowered not restricted – I think I enjoy food now more than ever.”

Amelia’s ethos towards healthy eating is focused around a term she coined as Positive Nutrition. This principle moves away from fad diets and rules - focusing on the inclusion of food in your diet to achieve good nutritional balance, rather than foods that should be excluded. Cooking good food from scratch, putting seasonal vegetables at the heart of any meal and ensuring that food remains joyful and rewarding are all fundamental beliefs to Amelia. Instead of labelling certain foods as 'good' or ‘bad’, she emphasises the importance of inclusion with moderation, “there’s always a place for these joyful foods within a balance,” and urges her clients to make small, achievable, positive changes that are consistent.

Most people find that when researching nutrition and staying up to date with the latest naughty and nice list of foods, eating healthily can become overwhelming. Amelia believes that good nutrition is a must for everyone and therefore should be simple and accessible, a message that has been at the forefront of her teaching for the last 15+ years. Her fourth and most recent book ‘Simply Good For You’ does just that; provides simple and accessible guidance and recipes for healthy eating. Her previous books have won 1st place on the Sunday Times bestsellers list and International Bestseller.
