Part 2 - Pressing Tulips Using a Larger Press

Next, we are going to show you how to press tulips - which is a little more complex and involves dissecting the flower head.

Tips for Pressing Tulips

• Source the thickest absorbent paper you can for denser flowers such as tulips.
• Positioning bigger flowers face down enables you to have more control over their placement.
• Don't worry if a flower head snaps off - you can still include it in the press, and reattach it later when you come to compose your artwork.
• Only include the freshest flowers to give you the best pressings. If a flower is on the turn but the leaves are still fresh, you can press these separately to use in your composition later on.
• To prevent fuller or 'meatier' tulips from moulding, it is best to dissect them first and press each element separately. Simply pinch off each of the individual pieces with your fingers and spread them out on the paper. Once dried, the flower can then be reconstructed to create an artwork.
• It's definitely worth checking tulips more regularly, and ensuring the paper is dry.
