“‘Design is not learnt by sitting at a desk, it’s learnt by opening your eyes to the world around you.’ - Emma Sims-Hilditch.
With over thirty years of experience, Emma Sims-Hilditch is an interior designer of high standing with exceptional expertise. Her timeless, country inspired aesthetic is instantly recognisable and her work is known for effortlessly blending incredible functionality with beautiful form.
In her first ever online course, Emma generously reveals the inner workings of her esteemed design studio Sims Hilditch, as well as offering a 360 view of what it’s really like working in the design industry, and how best to forge your own path. ‘I believe that you should take a layered approach to learning about interior design’, encourages Emma, ‘The more you can soak up and the more you can see of the world, the better.’

Emma’s journey into interior design began with her own home over 30 years ago. Bought as a completely derelict Grade II listed old school house, it became the project of a lifetime. ‘Our family and friends thought we were completely mad and tried to put us off, warning us of the risky journey ahead’, said Emma, ‘But I think the fact they said that made us want to do it even more.’ Despite having no design qualifications or renovation experience, Emma and her husband had a vision and were steadfast in bringing it to life.
Opening the doors to her beloved home, the course begins with an in depth look at The School House, which remains their family home to this day, as Emma reflects on how this monumental renovation became the blueprint for the Sims Hilditch design DNA. Emma shares in detail her characteristic approach to texture, comfort and layering soft colour through a never before seen tour of each room and the design decisions she made along the way.

‘A home is a living, breathing, emotional place,’ muses Emma. ‘How you feel when you walk into a home is something you must consider really carefully from the very beginning.’ Defined by meaning and purpose, Emma’s design philosophy is a balancing act between the emotional and the intelligent; how a home feels and how a home functions. Throughout each project covered by the course, you’ll discover real life examples of how she puts this theory into practice, as well as tips for how to strike the balance yourself.
Whether you’re just starting your journey into interior design, are more of a seasoned professional or even just about to begin your first renovation in your own home, you’ll find so much to learn from and be inspired by in Emma’s wisdom and unparalleled knowledge.

“Designing a home is about so much more than aesthetics – it’s about creating spaces that elevate everyday life.
