Master The Art of Block Printing

No experience is needed at all — Molly never studied art at school and found her own creative path through block printing. The course begins with the simplest possible technique, a potato print at your kitchen table, and builds up gradually to lino carving and printing on fabric. Molly's whole philosophy is 'perfectly imperfect', so beginners are encouraged to celebrate the marks of the maker rather than chase perfection.

Very little — most of what you need can be found around your home or bought inexpensively. Molly starts with a potato, some paint and a piece of paper, then introduces wooden-backed lino blocks, fabric paint, chalk paint and emulsion, plus lining paper and offcuts of linen, old sheets, pillowcases and plain tea towels. She also shares where to source affordable fabrics, from antique fairs and Etsy to high street DIY shops, so you can print at your kitchen table without a studio.

Absolutely — this is one of the central themes of the course. Molly takes you on a walkthrough of her own colourful Sussex cottage, showing how block printed cushions, lampshades, curtains, headboards, upholstery and wallpaper come together, and how to mix pattern and colour with confidence. You'll finish with the skills and inspiration to create genuinely bespoke, personal pieces for your home that you can't buy anywhere else.

Molly brings both the ancient craft traditions she has learned from master printers and carvers in Jaipur and Bagru in India, and a modern, colour-led British sensibility to her teaching. The course also includes a very special visit to Charleston, the Bloomsbury Group's East Sussex farmhouse, where Molly unpacks the patterns, painted fireplaces and 'liberating confidence' that inspire her own work. It's as much a course in finding your creative voice and using colour joyfully as it is a technical printing class.
