The Kitchen

My kitchen has been through an evolution of different styles as my lifestyle and tastes have changed over the years. Now it's primarily a functional space, but the aesthetic of each detail has still been carefully considered.

• Previously, the countertops were made from a silvered glass – very beautiful but incredibly impractical. They are now a faux Scagliola marble.
• The flooring is wooden boards, with a black and white chevron design painted on top; I love the geometry this pattern provides the room.
• All the kitchen cabinets are made from ebonised wood, and the ceiling is in a black lacquer. The splashback is mirrored, which gives an otherwise quite dark colour palette a touch of sparkle.
• Having a butchers block on wheels is an incredibly useful addition to any kitchen – it can be used as an extra surface wherever you need it, and can then be simply pushed to one side when not in use.
• I love to include table lighting in a kitchen, because sometimes you want a softer ambience.
