The Guest Bedroom at Hope Hill

Take a look at one of the guest bedrooms I've prepared to see how it all comes together.

  • Decorating a guest bedroom needn't be expensive – look out for second-hand furniture that can act as occasional storage. You can paint a piece to make it work better in your scheme.
  • The bed is really the main story in any guest bedroom, and I like to emphasise this with a canopy. You can make your own with the help of a carpenter and an upholsterer.
  • I think that quality bed linens are critical, and they're an area where it's worth spending a bit more money.

The Composition of a Bed:

  • A white cotton valance around the base of the bed
  • A good-quality mattress
  • A mattress topper
  • Percale sheets
  • A cotton thermal blanket
  • Diamond piqué bedcovers
  • A duvet in percale sheet at the foot of the bed
  • Plenty of pillows and cushions
  • European square cushions at the back
