Located on Harbour Island, The Dunmore Hotel is a charming example of Amanda's work with clients to achieve a sense of luxury and comfort

The Dunmore Hotel was built in the 1950s as an exclusive retreat and was renovated 10 years ago with the help of Amanda Lindroth Design. The pink sand of the beach in front of the hotel is unique to The Bahamas and attracts holidaymakers from all around the world.

The clubhouse is a relatively small space and needed to serve a number of different functions including serving three meals a day, cocktails from the bar at night and relaxation throughout the day. Thoughtful design helped to 'programme' space to serve all these various functions.

Whether you're designing for yourself or a client, it's important to consider the various times of the day when the space will be used and what it will be used for. Write everything down in the form of a list, asking yourself 'What is this room meant to do?' and 'What is the mood I'm trying to capture?' Mark down the specific times, along with the functions and feelings, in order to help programme your space.

Creating collections brings a sense of authenticity, using assorted prints, magazines and album covers of different colours and size frames. Try creating your own collection and stacking them on shelves, rather than hanging them, placing things in a mix-matched way to give it a feeling of being assembled over time rather than all in one go.
