As well as fabrics, the Nina Campbell showroom is home to her range of thoughtfully designed furniture. In this lesson, Nina talks about the importance of seeing pieces in person, and demonstrates how one item of furniture can have lots of different uses, depending on what you style it with.
There are many ways to source furniture for your home, but visiting a showroom is a great opportunity to see pieces in person and as well as gather invaluable inspiration for pairing different items together.
Think outside the box when it comes to using furniture pieces. Here are three ideas for how to make the same table work in different scenarios.
Console table in a hallway
Style with: Symmetrical lighting either side, a tray for post and use the drawers for keys.
Dressing table in a bedroom
Style with: An elegant slipper chair, a tabletop mirror and pretty candles.
A desk in a home office
Style with: Task lighting, decorative box files and a utilitarian desk chair.
What you choose to pair with the piece and how you style it will give the context.
Remember, you can always enquire about different finishes – often, furniture pieces can be made available in a range of woods or colours, and you can choose which will work best for your scheme.
There are two ways of furniture shopping: either you are looking for a specific item for a room or you're buying more generally for a bigger house project. In both instances, you should always keep in mind that the piece(s) should be able to move with you or your client to future homes, or be switched into different rooms. This is not only an economical way to shop but also a more sustainable approach.

World-renowned interior and textile designer. House & Garden Lifetime Achievement Award.
British decorator Nina Campbell is undeniably one of the world’s most respected and influential interior designers of our time. In her 50 years in the industry, she has accumulated an unparalleled list of clients and design expertise. Nina’s enthusiasm and interest in design and interiors was developed when, at the age of 19, she went to work for John Fowler at the prestigious Sybil Colefax & John Fowler. Shortly afterwards, she set up her eponymous decorating business, where one of her first commissions was to design a castle in Scotland. Renowned for her contagious wit, brilliant sense of style and her unmistakably rich and elegant colour palette, Nina’s designs appeal to both young and old and sit well in both contemporary and traditional interiors. She continues to work on notable projects - both commercial and residential - across the globe, with both new clients and those who return across the generations.
