Many popular indoor plants will grow in water without soil. In this lesson James schools you on how to grow beautiful plants with only water.
Plants Used:
- Epipremnum aureum 'Devil's ivy'
- Tradescantia fluminensis 'Small-leaved spiderwort'
- Chlorophytum comosum 'Spider plant'
- Monstera deliciosa 'Monstera deliciosa'
Lesson Summary
- Plants from humid places are programmed so that as soon as they hit water roots will develop from them.
- Chlorophytum and Tradescantia will start to root within 48 hours, meaning you will start to see their roots growing.
- Leaves will rot underwater, whilst stems won't.
- Wherever you slice and regardless of the conditions, these plants will be very keen to grow.

Look at the plants you already have in your home. Which species can be grown in water? Buy some glass vases and cut off a few stems and grow them in water.
