The Kitchen

Welcome to my home, where I'll be demonstrating how some of my favoured techniques work in a real-life setting. We're starting in the kitchen, arguably the hardest working room in the house thanks to its multi-functionality.

The Kitchen

  • I have three preset scenes that can be operated via a switch plate on the wall or via my phone.
  • Uplights on top of the cupboards provide general lighting, pendants offer a visual focus within the room and downlights above the kitchen island give focused task lighting. In the open shelving, I have backlight and more focused uplights for specific objects. I also have decorative wall lights and backlighting within glass shelves.
  • When all your lighting effects are on dimmers, you can create different moods depending on the time of day or activity you are doing.

The Dining Kitchen

  • My kitchen is open-plan and also contains a dining space. I approached the lighting slightly differently here to give each space a distinct feel.
  • Task lighting isn't so much of a concern here, so the effects are more decorative. A chandelier is the room's main focus, and a downlight illuminates the flowers beneath. Back lighting makes the objects within the glass shelving shimmer and sparkle.
  • Don't forget about candlelight to create a really cosy and inviting atmosphere.
