The Living Room & TV Room

Join me in my living room, where I have chosen to install many different layers of lighting to give the ultimate flexibility.

The Living Room

• In this room I have four preset scenes, operated by a switch plate by the door and via my phone too.
• 5 amp floor and table lamps provide my general ambient lighting.
• Lights within the shelving and an uplighter above the corner unit add depth to the room as night falls.
• A combination of backlight and front light in the shelving unit to really celebrate the objects on display.
• Lighting artwork can make a huge difference to a room, creating areas of focus and drama. I have opted for traditional picture lights, but with modern LED strips to ensure the whole artwork is lit. Spotlights from the ceiling illuminate artwork in a more contemporary way.
• Rather than having curtains, I opted for uplighters to illuminate and define the architectural detail of the shutter boxes.
• I'm always conscious of providing the centre of a room with an element of focus, and I introduced it here with a spotlight onto the coffee table to illuminate a floral display.

The TV Room

• A small and cosy room in my home, the TV room is a space for relaxing and unwinding.
• I have recessed 2400k LED strips into a cutaway detail within the edge of the shelving so that the light is shone below and above. This is a really effective way to light the books on display.
