From the Lesson Workbook

Introducing the Two Projects

Throughout this course, we'll be making two variations of a hand sewn gathered lampshade.

The two lampshades we'll be making are similar in principle, but use a few different techniques and processes.

Gathered Lampshade

I would definitely recommend starting with this project, as it teaches you the fundamental techniques we'll be building on with the second project.

This lampshade has a gathered outer fabric with a pleated lining and a self bound trim.

The outer fabric is added first, then finished with the lining.

Gathered Lampshade with a Frilly Base

For the next lampshade project, the outer fabric is gathered, and this time incorporates a frilly trim at the base.

The process is also slightly different as the lining is added first, then the outer fabric is applied afterwards.

We will measure and prepare the fabric for both projects in the same way, and will do this together simultaneously.
