Tulip blight can devastate your cut flower harvest. Here’s what to look out for and how to deal with it.

From the Lesson Workbook

Tulip Blight

Tulip blight (also known as tulip fire) is a fungal disease that can devastate tulip crops, usually in wet weather.

Similarly to potato or tomato blight, you must remove the infected plants as soon as you see them, to stop the fungus from travelling to its neighbours.

The fungus initially infects the bulbs of a plant but then travels upwards and affects the leaves and flowers, causing holes and damaged petals.

As an organic farm, we cannot use any sprays to kill off the fungus, but we are currently trialling a new organic compound that we hope will help us combat tulip blight.

If you have had a bad bout of tulip blight, then you will have to plant your tulips somewhere else and leave that patch of ground tulip-free for a few years, this is the only organic way to combat it.
