Colours in Action - The Master Bedroom
This scheme revolves around a show stopping ancient Chinese wallpaper that I had restored specially for the room.
- We've adjusted the height of both the floor and ceiling, and added windows too.
- I knew I wanted the ancient Chinese wallpaper to be the main event within the room, so I designed all the other elements to be part of it's supporting cast.
- As there is so much interest within the pattern, I decided to start the wallpaper above the chair rail.
- The colours within the rest of the room are subservient to the wallpaper, and offer a respectful nod to the blue undertone within the pattern.
- To break it up a little bit, I included two tones of a similar colour across the panelling, trims and cornicing.
- The curtains are made from a fabric by Chelsea Textiles, and were repurposed from another room. They're embroidered around the border, but are mostly plain and provide a little visual quietness.
- I have chosen furniture and accessories from Sri Lanka, Syria and China to create a nice multicultural dialogue.
- The bed frame has been painted in the same colour as the trim to create a connection, while the fabric of the headboard and footboard picks up the purple notes within the wallpaper.
- This room is all about using colour to celebrate the incredibly unique wallpaper, and accentuating how rare and special it is. The colour is successful because it provides an architectural framework without drawing attention to itself.
