Edward walks you through his master bathroom, and explains how a very soft pink in a sample can feel a lot more impactful when applied to walls.

Colour in Action - The Master Bathroom

A bathroom calls for a palette that feels comfortable and flattering, and I believe the best colour for that is pink.

Choosing Colour

  • This particular tone may not strike you as a particularly strong pink on a colour chart (it's Cuisse de Nymphe Emue), but once applied to a room it can feel a lot more impactful. This is because pink really absorbs the light and produces a much more saturated effect. The lesson here is, a pink needn't be nearly as pink as you think!
  • I think pink is best seen as an isolated wall colour, with tonal off whites to be used alongside on trims.
  • To some extent, pink can be seen as a neutral thanks to the dominance of earth pigments within it, and as a result is a great accompaniment to stronger elements of colour within a scheme.
  • This bathroom connects to our master bedroom, which has a palette of pale to mid green tones. To create a nice visual contrast between the two rooms, I consulted the colour wheel to find tones of red sitting opposite. To achieve a softer look, I reigned in the depth of red to arrive at this calming pink.
