A Hanging Flower Cloud - Part 2: The Mechanics and Structure

To secure the structure in place, attach wires to either end of the vines and then attach them to either side of the space.

Depending on your room, you could attach your structure to beams, to the wall with picture hooks, or hang it over a table by attaching it to light fittings. Work with what you have, just make sure that your structure is fixed firmly in place.

If your installation is going to be hanging over a dining table in the centre of a room, you need to make sure that it looks good from every angle too.

Creating Your Flower Cloud

  • If you're working with hops, remove the leaves as they don't dry as well as the hops themselves.
  • Poke your vines into your chicken wire and then fix onto your structure with your wire.
  • To make your display appear as organic as possible, work with the natural flow of your plant materials – don't try and force your stems into unnatural shapes as this will make your display jarring to the eye.
  • Creating an asymmetrical shape will make your design look more natural too.
  • There will likely be some trial and error as you build your design, so don't be afraid to remove stems and replace them as you go.
