How to Use Pinterest

You need to treat Pinterest with care, you need to make the join between what you are pinning and how you can interpret it into your actual space and what you can actually have.

  1. Create a board for the room you want to work on or for your whole house.
  1. You should make your board private
  1. Label your first board A and run through Pinterest, pinning everything you like.
  1. Don't sit at your computer for too long. Walk away and do something else.
  1. Once you come back to your board, you'll find a thread has emerged. Perhaps colour, shapes, or even types of rooms are what you are drawn to.
  1. Set up boards B and C. Look at the first image on board A and ask yourself, "Did I pin this because it is just beautiful?" "Did I pin this because I have a similar feature in my home?"
  1. Board B features things you can actually have in your home and designs that make sense for your space.
  1. Don't sit at your computer for too long. Walk away and do something else.

A Quick Guide to Using Pinterest

Step 1. Understanding Pinterest Terminology

Pin

Pins are bookmarks on Pinterest used to save images you like. A pin contains an image, a description, and a link. If you click through the pin you are taken to the website where the content was produced or where you can purchase a product seen in the image.

Repin

A repin is sharing other persons pin on your board, this is done by pressing 'save'.

Board

The pins that you save are placed on boards. Boards can be named and arranged on your profile the way you best see fit. You can invite other people to your boards, creating Group boards. You can also create secret boards that are only visible to you.

Section

A section is a subset of your board (almost like a board within a board), allowing you to categorise things further.

Profile

Your profile displays your various boards and you can see who is following you and whom you are following. When you follow people you are automatically following their pins boards, however, this can be changed by clicking on their profile and clicking 'unfollow boards'.

Your Assignment

Creating your boards is the first step. It is important to walk away and then come back to it. Have you discovered a common theme in your pinned pictures?
