Our homes are probably being asked to do more than ever before. Kate shows you how to zone your space and design a work from home space that inspires you.
In a small room, zoning each area is crucial. If your bedroom needs a desk, consider buying a dressing table with a drawer. A sitting room doesn't have the same defined function. A narrow console table behind a sofa can serve as a desk in a sitting room.
Lighting can be used to zone a space. You can easily define a sitting room by placing furniture on a large rug. One of the simplest ways to demarcate a kitchen and dining area is to have two different types of flooring. Looking at how hotels and bars arrange their furniture is key.
Paint is great at painting a different area. Painting halfway along a wall is another way of demarcating space.
You should be inspired by the space; you should want to work there. The space needs to function to make you happy to work there. When there is no window in your designated desk space, it is important that you place a picture you love, something that inspires you. Invest in a comfortable office chair, preferably one with wheels.
Create a list of what you need from a space and mark certain areas on your floor plan. Remember you need a minimum of 90 cm for a passageway.
