Sarah guides you through the course contents and explains what you’ll be learning on your creative journey, from planning and sowing, to cutting and arranging.
When I started growing cut flowers, seed ranges in the UK were very limited, with just a few varieties of each plant available in seed catalogues.
Over the years, thanks to our trials here at Perch Hill, we have been able to find the best ways to grow cut flowers for abundance and productivity. With an emphasis on low inputs and maximum outputs, I will teach you how to save time and do things easily, but also successfully.
While science can help you to understand why things work in a horticultural sense, creativity is also at the heart of everything we do here at Perch Hill. So to help you as you set out on your creative journey, I will be introducing you to some of my favourite plants and colour combinations.
Over the course of these videos I will teach you how to put together colour, texture and scent within your garden and help you to create a beautiful and calming space.
In this course you will learn:
While learning a new skill might seem intimidating at first, none of the growing in this course is difficult and it's all designed with simple abundance, colour, scent and beauty in mind.
I won't be using lots of jargon in this course, and if I do use any technical terms, I'll explain exactly what they mean in simple terms.
If you've already got a bit of gardening experience, then it would be great if you could leave your previous gardening knowledge at the door so that we can embark on this journey together.
I'll teach you everything from sowing seed to picking and conditioning your flowers to ensure they last as long as possible in the vase.
When it comes to flower arranging, even if you don't see yourself as a creative person, this course will help you to learn beautiful flower arranging recipes, that will give you gorgeous results time and time again.
For the length of this course we're going to use a specific 9 by 5 metre plot, which is roughly what you could fit into an average sized garden. Whatever size space you have though - whether it's a balcony or a window box - I will share the plants that I grow seasonally which can be made to work in any space.
We'll be developing this patch over the course of one year, so you can grow according to the changing seasons.
