From the Lesson Workbook

Editing Low-key Images

With the final image selected, I'm now going to show you how I enhance the image in Lightroom.

Editing a Low-key Image

  1. I want to enhance the shadows in the corners of the frame by using a vignette.
  2. Start by selecting the radial gradient tool, and position it on top of your image, with the inner circle as your main focal point.
  3. Invert it so that the darkness is on the outside.
  4. Experiment with the exposure until you are happy; for me, this is −1.50.
  5. If you want to lift the central focal point, you can go in with the brush; for my image, I increased the exposure on the dahlia to +3.0.

Your Assignment

Put your own image into Lightroom, and experiment with adding a vignette to deepen the shadows.
