Design Philosophy Part 1

Breaking boundaries and doing things that are a little out of your comfort zone is a sweet spot for 2LG. Learn about the importance of breaking rules and creating spaces that represent you in this lesson.

• Boundaries and things that are a little uncomfortable are a sweet spot for 2LG.
• There is no shame with 2LG, building confidence and creating beautiful interiors is what they are all about.

The Do's and the Don'ts

• Don't follow trends, instead, follow what you love.
• If you like a particular colour and it isn't in fashion, don't be put off.
• Do be the change you want to see, create something entirely for yourself.
• Do remove constraints and don't rely on rules, listen to what you love.
• The goal here is for 2LG to help you create an interior that will change your everyday life for the better.

Collaboration

• Working collaboratively is about all voices being recognised and listened to.
• Listen to your family, their needs and their wants.
• What happens if nobody compromises?
• Disagreement is an important part of the creative process, embrace and talk through the disagreements.
• Try and figure out why.
• See yourself as a client and a brand so that you can step outside of yourself and see what you need.
• Make sure that everyone involved is engaged in the conversation

Breaking the Rules

• Throw out any rules that you may have.
• Design isn't a luxury, it is normal, transient and changing.
• The purpose of this course is not to give you a set of rules, but rather you need to create your own look.

Your Assignment

List all the stakeholders in your design (your partner, children, roommates). Get each person to list the things they require from the space. Have a very group discussion about what is important to each one of you. Talk through your disagreements.
