This space is all about indulgence and luxury, provided through the sheer size and scale of the suite, as well as the carefully considered decorating scheme.

From the Lesson Workbook

A Sophisticated Bedroom Suite

To fulfil the clients' brief of creating a spacious and luxury principal bedroom suite, we knocked through to the neighbouring bedroom to create a walk-in wardrobe as well as taking a little bit of space from another bedroom for the ensuite.

  • Bauwerk paint wraps around every wall and the ceiling for a really soft and cocooning effect.
  • Curved walls behind the bed also contribute to this cocooning and welcoming feel.
  • Mixing contemporary and custom-made elements with a few antique pieces helps the scheme to feel authentic. The rug is a vintage kilim sourced from 1stDibs.
  • Generous drapery helps soften the room and diffuse light for a more relaxing ambience. We have coupled a lightweight voile with a blackout linen curtain for maximum flexibility.
  • Like the rest of the house, the colour scheme for this room is rooted in nature with soft greens and neutral tones, and materials such as wood, stone and travertine echo this natural sentiment.
  • Getting the lighting right is particularly important in a bedroom, where you want to feel calm and relaxed. I opted for a flush ceiling light with a soft silk shade to provide a gentle, diffused glow. Hanging pendant lights either side of the bed and a floor lamp by the sofa offer more focused lighting for reading.
  • Amongst the soft colours of the scheme, I chose to add a statement artwork by Danielle Mckinney. It introduces a touch of saturated colour for visual focus while still evoking a mood of calm and serenity.
  • An archway leads you through to the walk-in wardrobe, and I decided to line the arch with a statement stone to really elevate the space.
