A Tour of Alex's WOW!house Media Room - Part 2

The best part of designing my installation for WOW!house has been letting my creativity and imagination run completely free. I have been able to create custom pieces in collaboration with some amazing artists and designers.

The Details

• I have endeavoured to hide all of the technology for a more seamless and calm experience. (expand on this)

• The narrative of the space as a 'Date Night' really informed the colours and materials. I wanted the space to feel warm, welcoming and inviting, and the earthy tones I have chosen set this mood perfectly. The accent colour of teal blue is a cooler tone that sits in beautiful contrast to the rich terracottas.

• Custom-made pieces are especially useful in a small space. For example, the custom-made sofa in this room works in harmony with the architecture of the room, allowing for much more seating than a freestanding piece would have given.

• I designed the rug to represent my interpretation of life. The varying texture signifies navigating the rough with the smooth and the ups with the downs, while each of my family members are symbolised by dots connected by a continuous line.

• Lighting is a crucial element within any room scheme, but it was particularly important in this design as I wanted to create a particular mood. There are three lighting schemes for different times of the day.

• For a media room, careful attention must be paid to the acoustics within the space. Soft fabrics help to absorb the sound for a better acoustic experience.

• Each object within the room speaks to the unique narrative of the design. (expand on this)
