A Calm Home Office

The design of this space was led by the mood and feeling we wanted to create: one of concentration, grounding and calm.

• The walls are covered in a dark, textured wood wallcovering from Mark Alexander. It was pretty difficult to install, but well worth the effort.
• While the artwork and overhead light are contemporary, everything else in the space is vintage. This helps to really ground the space by giving it age and provenance, despite being a new room.
• The rug is a vintage kilim from 1stDibs, the desk is a vintage piece covered in parchment; the chair is the iconic 'S chair' that I had reupholstered and the shelving unit is mid-century.

The design of this office is pretty special. I love how the dark colour scheme we chose creates a moody and sensual atmosphere that feels really unique.

• I deliberately positioned the desk in front of the cabinetry to ensure there are minimal distractions when working. As well as opting for a wallcovering, we also put a rug underneath the desk - both of which help with acoustics when on calls.
• This room is about balance; the walls and cabinetry are dark, but this is balanced through the light oak floors which lift the space and the standout desk in light taupe.
