The Garden 'Rooms'
As well as being beautiful, I also wanted my garden to be a place that people could relax in and enjoy. I was careful to form outdoor 'rooms' with different types of seating.
- All around the garden, there are wonderful resting places for contemplation; tiled built-in benches are a favourite of mine.
- I deliberately created zones that you can enter into and leave with distinct vistas, separated by sections of large planting, so that there is something new to discover around every corner.
- Unusual choices have been made in terms of planting and positioning, which I think adds to the wonderment of the garden.
- The best view of the whole garden has been reserved for the dining terrace. We have covered it in a roof to protect the dining area from dew, damp and wind. It keeps the space warmer as evening draws in. It's a gazebo made from tin, and I have painted it in stripes to mimic a tent.
