In this part of the course, you will be joining Bunny in New York. First on the itinerary is a trip to her office on the Upper East Side - an inspiring place that’s abuzz with creativity.
You're now joining me in my New York City office, on the Upper East Side. It's located within a building full of creatives and peers in the design industry.
We have been in this space since 1992, and love how open and bright it is.
Likely a former factory at the turn of the century, we removed the low ceilings to reveal the original beams and restored it to its more industrial roots.
The office is home to several teams of specialised designers who work here day-to-day and has different areas to host client meetings and hold brainstorming sessions. It's also a storage space for all of our design samples and reference materials.
Our office is an important representation of our design philosophy and sense of style as an interior design studio, so it's a very homely and comfortable place to be.
We have cosy sofas, carefully chosen furniture, pictures hung on the wall and collections of books - the way we have styled the space helps to give our clients a sense of what we do.
Whether you're designing for yourself or a client, working out the direction you want to go is the first port of call.
There are many avenues to go down and a myriad of styles to choose from, so one of the first things you want to do is create a roadmap. Ask yourself the questions below to start mapping out which design direction you're heading in.
Listening to your clients and really getting to know them is absolutely key to establishing a successful working relationship.
As an interior designer, you are working on somebody's home - and this is both incredibly intimate and personal. While the relationship should always be professional, there is also a certain element of connecting with your clients on a deeper level to ascertain what they really like and need from their homes.
