As an interior designer, you need to have a wide-ranging knowledge of the subjects below. I can't stress enough how crucial it is to learn as much as you can, because it trains your eye to know what to look for.

Ways to educate yourself
- Going to an auction and looking at the catalogue is a great way to familiarise yourself with historical furniture.
- Make scrapbooks of interesting images and references you love.
- Visit historical houses and places of interest, wherever you are in the world.
- Collect design books and old magazines.
