The Studio
Originally a neighbouring house to mine, when it came on the market I knew it would make the perfect studio. It was in a very run-down state, but I was attracted to its simple A-Frame architecture and was excited by the possibilities.
I completely gutted the house, removing all the walls to achieve one big open space that was filled with light. We had to install tie beams to ensure the house was supported. It was important to include a lot of shelving to house my many books, so I chose to run a bookcase along the entire length of the room.
The room is heated via underfloor heating, installed beneath poured polished concrete floors. I use the studio for a range of activities, so have created different zones for working, painting and relaxing. A mix of vintage furniture helps to make the space feel full of character.
