As well as weaving with alternating colours, another way to mix colours is to combine two coloured yarns into one weft yarn to create a marled effect.
As well as weaving with alternating colours, another way to mix colours is to combine two coloured yarns into one weft yarn to create a marled effect.
This works especially well when we have two thin yarns that we want to make thicker. We can even combine more than two yarns together, depending on the look we want to achieve.
Simultaneously wind two yarns of the same length onto a shuttle. To achieve a marled result, twist the yarns together. Weave as normal using the basic weaving technique.
For a similarly chunky effect, but just using one yarn, try the two-by-two technique.
STEP 1: You don't need the strings or the opening stick for this technique, so either remove or simply ignore them.
STEP 2: Load up a needle or shuttle with one yarn as normal.
STEP 3: Weave as normal, but instead of going under and over the warp yarns one-by-one, you will go under two and then over two.
STEP 4: When tucking in your loose end, follow the same pattern in the opposite direction to keep the sequence consistent.
STEP 5: Continue with the same sequence for as long as you like.
You can experiment with different sequences and thicknesses of yarn to achieve a texture and effect you like.

The best adventure. I like all the courses, but my favorite are both Rita Konig interior design courses and Anna Jones. Excellent!
