For your third and final project together, Maria will be showing you how to weave a placemat - and this time, you’ll be using a circular frame loom.

From the Lesson Workbook

Making a Round Placemat

For our second and final project together, I'll show you how to weave a placemat. This will use a circular frame loom.

We will use the T-shirt yarn again, which gives a chunky effect and makes the placemat suitable for protecting surfaces from hot saucepans and pots. You can use thinner yarns to create a more delicate placemat for individual table settings.

I will demonstrate a new technique in this project. It gives the weave a plaited effect.

As with the previous projects in this course, you should be able to use things you already have around your home. You can use an embroidery hoop or an old lampshade frame as the circular loom.

The Differences in Weaving on a Circular Loom

The process of weaving is exactly the same, as you will still be going over and under the warp strings. However this time, instead of rows, you'll be weaving in a continuous spiral.
