What You'll Need

The equipment we require is pretty much the same as for the previous project, just the frame and yarn are different.

Essential Tools

  • Warp yarn

Make sure it is suitable for the size you want your rag rug to be. I will use a frame that measures 29 × 35 inches. This will give me a weaving area of approximately 19 × 30 inches so that the final rug will be around 18 × 24 inches.

  • T-shirt yarn for your weft yarn

Collect a mixture of different colours and shades. It is difficult to predict quantities, so make sure you have plenty.

  • String or yarn to create your warp strings

This can be a single colour or multiple colours depending on the look you want.

Other Essential Tools:

  • scissors
  • ruler or measuring tape
  • permanent marker
  • needle
  • a couple of shuttles
  • sticks to set up your loom
  • fork.

Optional Specialised Equipment:

  • thread snip scissors
  • pair of clamps.
