In this lesson, Maria will teach you a new technique that sees two weft yarns criss-crossing through the loom to give a plaited effect.
In this lesson, I'll teach you a new technique that sees two weft yarns criss-crossing through the loom to give a plaited effect.
STEP 1: To finish with the yarn you're using, cut it and weave it between the small middle section of the warp strings and push to the back of the loom.
STEP 2: Take the two colours of yarn you are using, and cut a length of the same size from both of them.
STEP 3: Knot the two yarns together at one end.
STEP 4: Starting at the point you finished with the previous colour, insert your combined yarn into the loom, with the knot joining them at the back along with first colour of weft yarn, and then pull the second colour of weft yarn through to the front.
STEP 5: Go over the first warp string with the second colour and push it through to the back. Then go under the same warp string with the first colour, pushing it up to the front.
STEP 6: Now, the first colour of weft yarn will go over the next warp string. Thread it through to the back of the loom. The second colour will go under the same warp string. Then push it through to the front.
STEP 7: Repeat the process for as long as you want.
STEP 8: If you just want to weave one row with this technique, you will finish on the warp string directly before the warp string you started on. Feed both yarns between this warp string and the next one and then leave them hanging at the back of the loom.
STEP 9: Continue weaving and playing around with different techniques to finish your placemat.
