Mindful Eating - An Exercise

This mindful eating exercise with help you to better connecting with your food.

Take a moment to think about how you are actually feeling.

  1. Are you feeling tired?
  2. Are you feeling anxious or irritable?

Think how hungry am I on a scale of one to ten. Are you feeling lightheaded and shaky, really hungry and irritable, ready to eat your next meal? Are you really not hungry at all? It's important to check in with yourself and see how you are actually feeling.

Tips for Mindful Eating

  1. Try swapping your knife and fork around so that you are eating with your non-dominant hand; this will significantly slow down the eating process.
  2. Consider every individual who has been a part of that dinner. How did you get the food? What steps have been taken to prepare it? How was it prepared?
  3. Try and put your knife and fork down between each mouthful
  4. Try and savour every texture, smell and flavour that you feel in your mouth.
  5. At the end of the meal, ask yourself, "How do I feel now?" Hungry? Full? Satisfied?
