From the Lesson Workbook

The Whopper Pot in July

It's been six weeks since I planted up the sunny whopper pot, so in this lesson, I'm going to show you what it looks like in full bloom.

The Magic of Thunbergia

The great thing about thunbergia is that it is a self-clinging plant, so you don't need to do any training, it will find its way up the teepee.

You will also find that the thunbergia spills outwards too, which will create more structure and interest in your display. Let these tendrils grow where they want to as it will give your pot a more organic look.

As the plants in these whopper pots are so prolific, you can pick some of the flowers to use within your home without ruining the overall display in your pots. Just remember to sear the stem ends of your thunbergia to ensure that they last in a vase.

Feeding and Watering Your Whopper Pots

To keep things simple at Perch Hill, we water on set days of the week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

We also feed on Fridays, but we do this after we have already watered so that the plants will survive the weekend. One of the best feeds for an organic garden is organic seaweed fertiliser.
