If you have a limited budget, achilleas are a great choice for long lasting blooms in the pot and excellent life in the vase. Here, Sarah shows you how she uses them to frame her doorway.

Late Summer Pots in Bloom

Perennial Pots with Achillea

In this lesson, I'm going to show you how I arrange pots to frame a doorway using the soft and warm palette.

I've used a variety of achilleas in varying shades of pink here, from pastel pink to deeper colours. Achilleas are a first-year flowering perennial and can be grown from seed so they are a cost-efficient option. They work very well as fillers for pots but they can hold their own too.

They have a long flowering season and will last between five and six months, just make sure you deadhead them when the flowers go over. Achilleas have a great vase life too, and will last for around 3 weeks or they can be hung upside down and turned into dried flowers.

Achilleas are drought tolerant too and are excellent for pollinators.
