Willow walks you through how best to take a geranium cutting, and how to look after geraniums so they thrive in your home.

From the Lesson Workbook

Sweet Geraniums

I use Tomentosum geraniums in this lesson. My other two favourite varieties of geranium are Sidoides and Mrs Pollock.

Some specialist geranium breeders in the UK are Hardy Geraniums, Cranesbill Nursery, Aylett Nurseries and Woottens.

The side shoots on geraniums are referred to as nodes. A good cutting requires at least two nodes.

I recommend not overwatering geraniums and keeping them on a sunny windowsill, greenhouse, or bathroom. You'll need to cut back your geraniums in March to wake them up.

Waking them up entails taking them out of their pots, loosening all of their roots, and repotting them into a larger or the same pot. Secateurs, compost, and pots are required when taking geranium cuttings. You can put lots of cuttings in one pot.

Simply re-pot the geraniums and give them a haircut, and they will be thriving in no time.
