How to Create Timeless Interiors
with ALIDAD — Renowned designer famed for his opulent interiors. AD100, House & Garden Top 100, Elle Decor A-List.
Creating a space that is authentic to you and your family can be difficult. In this lesson, Alidad shares his own process for doing so, and how inspiration plays a vital role.
The day you stop learning is the day everything stops. A lot of interior design is logical, and it is quite easy once you go through it.
A lot of inspiration comes from magazines and photographs. Something in them can trigger a different thought and that can then guide another thought. Colour combinations from ads can trigger a thought use websites like Pinterest and start building up an image of what you like and don't like. However, there needs to come a moment where you edit things.
Become brutal and throw things away. Create a collection of things you are love and are appropriate. If you can't decide, time will decide for you. Once you have gathered all the photographs, analyse them. Ask yourself the following questions.
Inspiration can come from anywhere. Museums are always a great place to find inspiration. If you are lucky enough to travel, it is a great space to get inspired. A lot of things can inspire and trigger in you a reaction. Don't stop the inspiration flowing.
Wherever you are, there is an inspiration to be had. Just let yourself look and relax, and things will come your way. Anything from nature to the high street can inspire you.
Being trained can be a hindrance for some. For me, it would have restricted me a fair bit. Look, learn and try and absorb as much as you can every single day.
Not everyone needs further training. Think about yourself and whether you benefit from structure or from following your instinct.
Get to know and understand your sense of style. The questions below will help you deduce what your sense of style is.
Ask yourself the following questions;
Remember, that when you engage with references to what you really like, ask yourself the following questions.
