Cutting from the Garden - Part 4

Learn when to cut peony tulips at their peak to fill any vase.

These tulips demonstrate the man-made flowers that were bred for the floristry industry. 'Black Hero' is normally grown in a cosy tunnel and normally would have been cut before it got as heavy as mine.

A garden full of 'Black Hero' is one absent of bees. There are so many petals, but they don't have any stamens, and therefore no nectar or pollen. When Arthur plants peony-type tulips, he always plants classic tulips like 'Ballerina' and wallflowers, so there's something for the bees and something for us to look at.

'Avignon Parrot' is one of the biggest parrot tulips. The one Arthur has is really large, and it's far better off being put in a vase in the house. He waits for his tulips to be at the peak of flowering before cutting.
