After establishing the layout and creating your decorating scheme, it’s crucial to consider the practical side of how a room might be used - learn what you can do to make it feel complete and ready to be lived in.
Once a room scheme has come together and everything is fully installed, it's important to return to the practical side of how the room might be used, and what you can do to make it feel complete and ready to be lived in.
Rooms can quickly develop what I call 'invisible corridors'; these are the paths people take to walk through a room. Resist the temptation to keep these clear of furniture, as this often renders that part of the room useless. Muddle the invisible corridor by adding a chair or side table to make the room feel more inviting.
If there is a fireplace in a room, it always deserves some attention when it comes to styling and accessories to make it feel really cosy. I like to add baskets for logs and kindling, so that everything you need to light a fire is ready and close to hand.
Think about how rooms relate to each other, and the views you can see down corridors and through doorways. Neighbouring rooms shouldn't be jarring; create connections between them using colour and similar materials.
