The Installation - Part 1

Arguably the most exciting stage of a renovation project is after all the building work is complete, and you can begin to install all the furniture and accessories you have planned for each space.

Tips for the Installation Process

  • Above all, try to enjoy the installation. The journey to get to this point has more than likely been a long and difficult one, and this is the part where everything becomes worth it so allow yourself the time to take pleasure in seeing it come together.
  • For professional projects, I will always write into the contract that installation cannot happen in August or pre-Christmas and I would really recommend enacting this. These are times when people are often on holiday or off-work with their families, which can make the process much more complicated than it needs to be.
  • Don't move in on a Friday night, as you will inevitably find things that don't work - some of which may be critical, and then can't be fixed over a weekend.
  • Rather than firing off messages straight away when problems arise, create a list so you can go through them calmly and systematically with the correct person.
  • An installation should be staggered and structured, so that things are brought in at different times as and when they are needed. You don't want to overwhelm your site by unloading everything all at once.
  • A snagging list is an important part of any installation - keep a dedicated notebook or use an app on your phone to record everything and create a plan of action to deal with each issue.
