Architects and interior designers have very different roles, but there can also sometimes be crossover. To achieve a good working relationship, it's worth discussing your responsibilities from the outset.
Developing a Working Relationship
As this project is my own home, I want to be involved in as many decisions as possible. However, if this was a professional project, I would normally leave the decision making on architectural details to an architect.
There can be crossover between the responsibilities of an architect and interior designer, and arguably the best results happen when you work closely together. Having a conversation at the very beginning to establish how you will approach working together is invaluable, as is trusting each profession to do their part.
