The Kitchen - Part 4

With the practicalities of your kitchen design all plotted out, it's finally time to have fun with colour schemes and decorative touches.

Creating a Kitchen Scheme

  • When deciding on a colour for the kitchen cabinets, think about the wider colour scheme of the entire home and look at colours that are complementary to this. You want a home to have flow and be visually cohesive throughout.
  • We opted for 'Flax Blue' in this kitchen, and the same tone of blue is echoed in the curtains, as well as in the dining room.
  • The island ends are crafted out of oak and stained to be the same tone as other pieces of furniture throughout the house.
  • Cabinet handles can have a huge impact on the overall look of a kitchen. We opted for Victorian-style cup handles in antique brass for a traditional feel, whereas a long, sleek handle would have given a more contemporary look.
  • For a cohesive look, opt for the same metal finish throughout the hardware in your kitchen, including handles, hinges, power sockets, switches and door handles.
  • Choosing a creamy off-white for the walls helps to bring warmth into the big and vast space.
  • Bar stools are a great way to transform a kitchen island into a sociable space.
  • When designing a kitchen island, consider the balance between storage and aesthetic.
  • In every room you want to think about your 'drama moment'; in this case, it is definitely the beautiful 5m long kitchen island.

The Kitchen Scheme

  • Walls: 'Shaded White' paint, by Farrow & Ball.
  • Cabinets: Henley kitchen, painted in 'Flax Blue' paint, by Neptune.
  • Cabinet hardware: Queslett cup pull, by Armac Martin.
  • Curtains: 'Pashmini' fabric in Lapis Lime, by Lewis & Wood.
  • Inspired by the green within the curtain fabric, we opted for antique accessories in similar tones of green from Lorfords in Tetbury.
  • Bar stools: Shoreditch bar stools, by Neptune. Upholstered in 'Wicker' fabric in N-099, by Fermoie.
