I gained an invaluable understanding of scale and proportion during my time working on film sets, and I still employ these lessons in my design work today.

Scale & Proportion

• Drama can be created within a room by choosing certain elements to be oversized.
• Having technical drawings is invaluable when looking at scale and proportion, as you can see a true representation of the size things will be and then play around with making them bigger or smaller.
• Scale is particularly important in big rooms, where furniture needs to be large to feel in proportion.
• Oversized mirrors can really transform a home; they reflect light beautifully as well as drawing the eye up to make a room feel bigger.
• The proportions of artwork are crucial to get right. You can give smaller paintings a bigger impact by framing them in large, oversized frames.
• I like to have relaxed, informal arrangements of foraged flowers and foliage in my home and favour large branches for creating drama.
