The Kitchen - Part 1

I have a particular passion and love for designing kitchens; they are the heart of the home and are the perfect blend of form and function.

The Kitchen

  • In this project, we chose a Neptune kitchen. It is good-quality cabinetry, made in an authentic way with sustainably sourced wood.
  • A kitchen should be designed for longevity. When the cabinetry is well made, it will last for a lifetime and can be freshened up over the years with a change of paint colour or handles.
  • Opting for a classical design style means the kitchen will never go out of style. At Sims Hilditch, we prefer to use historical design references to create something that is completely timeless.

The Interior Architecture

  • We were starting from scratch in this room, and every element is new. We wanted to make sure that the interior architecture we introduced was authentic and in keeping with the older parts of the existing building, while also creating drama, character and a sense of scale.
  • The pitched ceiling is 5m tall and clad in exposed rough whitewashed soft timber. I love how the natural texture still shows through and adds personality to the room. The cladding also helps with sound deadening.
  • Choosing a stone floor can be such a minefield. For the kitchen area, we used the local area as a starting point and opted for a Cotswold stone in varying slab sizes with plenty of rustic indents.
  • We love to combine different floors, so we introduced an oak floor in the dining room section of the room.
  • The oak material is echoed in the kitchen through the double doors out to the garden.
  • We created a faux chimney breast to prevent the walls from feeling flat and to give an added dimension to the space. It also as the function of hiding the extractor fan for the cooker.
