Part 18- Adding the Borders

To hold the piping firmly in place and to finish off the side section of your headboard neatly, you can now add the border pieces of fabric.

1. Place your headboard wooden side up on your table.

1. Take your border fabric and lay it face down with one side against the edge of your headboard and the other side flat on the table.

1. Line up the edge of your border fabric with the edge of the piping fabric. Secure in place with vertical permanent staples, ensuring the staple stays within the excess seam allowance of the piping fabric and doesn't catch the piping itself.

1. Repeat the process for the entire section of border fabric.

1. Take your back tack card and trim if required.

1. Push the back tack card so that the edge sits neatly into the sewn line of the piping. Secure in place with a horizontal permanent staple, as close to the edge as possible.

1. Repeat this process along the length of the back tack card.

1. If you reach a corner, trim the back tack card so it lines up with the edge of the corner and start a new piece to reduce bulk.

1. Repeat the process to add each border piece and back tack card around the entire edge of your headboard. Overlap the border pieces so that no wood is visible.

1. Once you reach the bottom corners, trim your back tack card to line up with the bottom edge of your headboard and secure it in place with a staple.
