Part 7- Removing the Outside Back
An outside back can be secured in lots of different ways, so take your time to work out how you can release it.
- The outside back might be attached with tacks, in which case these can be popped out with a mallet and tack remover. If it's been sewn, you'll need to unpick the seam with a Stanley knife or seam unpicker.
- Once you're able to fold back the outside back fabric, you'll be able to understand a bit more about how the chair has been put together and what you need to release next to continue stripping it back.
- Remove and discard any old back tack card. Assess the condition of existing foam and hessian; you may be able to keep the existing foam, but I would always advise replacing the hessian. Always keep the original springs.
