Part 4- Disassembling Your Chair

Don't worry if the chair you're using is slightly different to mine – I'll be showing you how to make a template from the old cushions, so you'll be able to replicate the exact unique measurements and shape.

  1. Throughout the process of disassembling the chair, take pictures to remind you how to put it back together at the end.
  1. Before removing anything from your chair, it's a good idea to label the cushions first with tailor's chalk so you know which cushion is the seat and which is the backrest; you should also label the front and back of each cushion.
  1. Once labelled, you can remove the loose cushions and set to one side.
  1. Ascertain how your seat platform is fixed and locate any screws underneath or at the side that need removing to release this from the frame.
  1. If you want to make any tweaks to the wooden frame – sanding it back and restaining it for example – now is the time to tackle this, while the chair is free from fabric.
