Part 6- Stripping your chair

Once you've made all the necessary notes and labelled your chair, you can begin to strip it down.

  1. Start with the underneath and use your pinches to pull off the bottom cloth.
  2. If your seat is webbed, the webbing may be sagging or ripped in places so will definitely need replacing. Even if it looks to be in reasonable condition, I would say it's always a good idea to replace the webbing so that the chair lasts as long as possible. Use black and white webbing, working from the back to the front of the seat, then interweave the sides.   3. Once you get to where the main fabric is attached to the wooden frame, use a mallet and tack remover to pop out any tacks or staples. Work your way around all the edges.
