Part 5- Preparing your chair

Being organised in the first instance will give you the best chance of upholstering your chair successfully.

  1. We want to keep the old fabric cover to use as a template, so it needs to be kept intact and a record made of where each piece goes.
  1. It's worth taking lots of pictures as you're stripping the cover back, to help you remember how to put it back together again.
  1. Be sure to label with a Sharpie or tailor's chalk what each piece is and where it goes.
  1. It's also a good idea to mark where important edges, joins and meeting points are. This will not only make the assembly process easier, but if you have a patterned fabric, these markings will also help you position the pattern accordingly.
