Every chair is different, and I would always recommend stripping your chair first before buying materials, so that you can see how it was originally made and assess whether you're going to replicate the same materials.

Every chair is different, and I would always recommend stripping your chair first before buying materials, so that you can see how it was originally made and assess whether you're going to replicate the same materials.

• If your seat platform is webbed, you need some new black and white webbing
• Closed weave hessian
• Fire retardant layer if your chosen fabric isn't fire retardant
• Fabric of your choice - must be upholstery grade
• Foam for the seat - I use 3inch pink foam
• Foam for the back - I use 1inch blue foam
• Dacron or polyester - I use a 6oz weight
• Back tack card
• Webbing - either replace like for like on your chair, or follow me and use plastic webbing.
• Plain cotton

Calculating how much fabric you will need

Another way to work out how much fabric you need is to strip your chair and use the old fabric as a template, just as you did with the box cushion. The only difference is that you will need to add an excess of at least 0.5m around the edges where there are staples, so you're able to grab and pull the fabric around.
